About Richard Lane
Artist Overview
Richard Lane is a Townsville-based landscape painter whose work is defined by tropical North Queensland light, colour, and coastal forms. Originally from Sydney, Lane first visited Townsville in 1977 and was immediately struck by the region’s turquoise waters, Magnetic Island silhouettes, and the dramatic coastal ranges. This experience transformed his artistic direction, leading him to relocate permanently in 1980. He has lived and painted in Townsville ever since.
His paintings focus on Cleveland Bay, Magnetic Island, Paluma Range, Hervey Range, Lake Ross, Pallarenda, and the Townsville Common, capturing the region’s atmosphere through intuitive, expressive landscapes. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including solo exhibitions in Townsville, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Port Douglas, Washington DC, and more.
Auction records show works such as Barrier Reef, Channel Country, and Winton Sunset appearing in Australian art sales databases. This positions Richard Lane as a recognised Australian landscape painter with a 40+ year career
